Guy, Shellie Moore and Dorian Byrd
Shellie Moore Guy has been featured nationally, combining activism with creativity and a commitment to the community. Viewing her art as a grassroots movement, she uses poetry, story, music and movement to teach as well as entertain. Born and raised into a family of entertainers; vocalist, musicians, storytellers and actors in Rock Island, Illinois, Shellie has groomed her gifts and emerges as a Poetic Storyteller and has embraced the role of village griot of her generation. Her collections of poem/stories, “Remembering Melodies: A Thank You Note” and “Roots Survive” honors our roles within our families and communities, and celebrates our ability to change, while challenging us speak out against injustice.
