I retired 5 years ago from the Indiana University School of Medicine where I had taught basic pharmacology to medical and graduate students for 30+ years and conducted basic research in the areas of kidney function, blood pressure control and shock wave lithotripsy (removal of kidney stones through application of high-energy shock waves). Along the way I began teaching and writing (newspaper columns) on the subject of over-the-counter drugs, and have delivered many talks on this subject to professional and lay audiences alike.
My interest in the subject of drugs derives from my undergraduate education in Pharmacy at Oregon State University, and my subsequent graduate training at the University of Iowa and the Mayo Clinic.
