David received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Luther College, a Master of Fine Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Iowa and his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Luther Seminary. He was a summer guest musician at Holden Village in 1989. He has a long history of bringing music and worship together.
