Dick and Phyllis have been working for a non-violence since the early 60s. Phyllis was on the board of the Jewish Peace Fellowship as well as Amnesty International. Dick was raised as a Quaker, a pacifist. He was a member of the national staff of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. They were part of a community in Philadelphia called the Philadelphia Life Center, a place where people can be trained in non-violence.
