Grew up in the Sonora Desert physically, the Lutheran Church spiritually, but imaginatively in the London of Arthur Conan Doyle, in the Middle-Earth of Tolkien and on the distant planets of Ursula K. Le Guin. When not living within the worlds created by whatever books he happens to be reading, David teaches writing and literature courses in the Humanities program at Waldorf College, in Forest City, Iowa. His spouse, Karen, is an ELCA pastor, and together they have raised three eager readers of books and explorers of the world.
