Brent Lofgren grew up in Crookston, MN. The local characteristics of cold and blowing snow during the winter and sometimes severe summer storms, along with a penchant for math and physics, brought Brent into the study of theoretical meteorology and climate. After completing a B.S. in physics and mathematics at Augsburg College, Minneapolis, he went on to get an M.S. and Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at Princeton University. Since 1992, he has worked at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor, MI. His specialties are the effects of global warming on the water supplies and lake levels of the Great Lakes, as well as interactions between human land use and climate in East Africa (he has traveled a few times in Kenya and Tanzania). Brent’s hobbies include singing with Measure for Measure Men’s Choral Society and acting with the Saline Area Players as well as other amateur acting troupes. He is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. Brent is a member of the Hall of Flame at Tios Restaurant in Ann Arbor, in honor of his having tasted 100 different hot sauces there.
