Joseph Leon, native of San Jose, CA (better known as Silicon Valley) continues to live in the Bay Area, enjoying its great weather. He is a graduate of More than Enough Ministries (Class of ’96); graduate of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS) 2002, fulfilling the Emerging Ministries requirement in the Teem program. This is what encouraged Leon to start up a Spanish speaking ministry at his place of worship Pueblo de Dios, formerly the Zion Lutheran Church.
Leon’s wife Maricela of 17 years, their daughters Mirian 15 and Noemi 13 began working with him in the community in 1998. In 2004, he was officially called to serve the Latino community as a full time pastor for Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA).
Community involvement has been key for Pueblo de Dios and is used as an outlet to transform lives and make disciples for Christ. One of the books that has influenced Leon’s life is The Purpose Driven Life, by Pr. Rick Warren. Giving people purpose, helps folks find meaning in their lives, and it all starts with God. One of Leon’s favorite actors of all time is Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino, also one of his favorite movies. It was the paradox connection that adversity had the power to make a person better or bitter in his or her daily life; the reward is endless and the movie models this in great form.
In Leon’s free time he enjoys bike riding, surfing, playing piano and guitar, listening to jazz and taking long walks with his family.
