Kevin grew up in Dubuque, IA, where his parents were teachers. He attended Catholic schools through college, then earned a Ph.D. in moleculer biology at Iowa State University. He now teaches biology at Luther College. His wife Barbara is a veterinarian/farmer who raises chickens, cattle, bees and vegetables. They have 3 children.
