Wee, Paul

Paul Wee received his B.A. from Harvard University, a Masters of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary and a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Social Science from the University of Berlin. He has worked in eastern and central Europe, primarily with faith-based communities, during the communist period and was a member of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Oxford. From 1986 to 1993 he was assistant general secretary for International Affairs and Human Rights of the Geneva-based Lutheran World Federation. During that period he worked closely with the World Jewish Congress, the World Council of Churches and the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. He has been active in the area of conflict resolution, having initiated talks between four armed opposition groups and the Government of Guatemala that resulted in the Oslo Accords of 1990, and was a member of the UN Observer Mission to South Africa (UNOMSA), which provided oversight of the first democratic election in that country.
