Florence was a preservation-minded resident of Cottonwood County, Minnesota where she actively sought to inform the public and preserve the Jeffers Petroglyphs. She was the first interpreter at the Jeffers Petroglyphs Site when it was purchased and turned over to the Minnesota Historical Society. She is co-author of "The Jeffers Petroglyphs: a cultural-ecological study".
