Marc Kolden was assistant professor of systematic theology at Luther Seminary (1973-1978), associate pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Helena, Montana and Director of the Northern Rockies Institute of Theology (1978-1981). He joined Luther Seminary again in 1981 and assumed position as academic dean in 1996. He has authored and co-authored a number of books.
