I grew up in the suburbs of Washington DC, and then spent several years in New Hampshire, studying religion and environmental science at Dartmouth College. I worked as an admissions officer, church secretary, youth group leader, outdoor program director, bike shop mechanic, naturalist guide and log-cabin builder. After a stint in the Peace Corps, I lived on a small island in the Philippines as an environmental education volunteer. I attended Divinity School and Forestry School at Yale, studying environmental ethics, eco-justice and international development. Upon graduating, my husband John and I settled in the Columbia City neighborhood of south Seattle. I currently teach Environmental Writing at the University of Washington, and serve as a board member for Earth Ministry. John convenes a new spiritual through the Methodist Church called Valley and Mountain Fellowship.
