In the early 1980's Wes was Associate for Global Resources and environment for the Reformed Church, Missoula, Montana.
Since 1994, the Rev. Wesley Granberg-Michaelson has served as general secretary of the Reformed Church in America (RCA), a Protestant denomination whose presence in the United States began in the 1620s.
A native of Park Ridge, Illinois, Granberg-Michaelson graduated from Hope College in 1967. He served for eight years on the staff of U.S. Senator Mark O. Hatfield of Oregon, and then for four years as managing editor of Sojourners magazine.
In 1984, Wes completed his theological education at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. With his wife, Karin, he then founded and served as president of the New Creation Institute in Missoula, Montana, working on issues of Christian responsibility for the environment as well as the church's role in healing and health.
Since 1994, the Rev. Wesley Granberg-Michaelson has served as general secretary of the Reformed Church in America (RCA), a Protestant denomination whose presence in the United States began in the 1620s.
Prior to becoming general secretary of the RCA, Granberg-Michaelson served for six years as director of Church and Society for the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Geneva, Switzerland (1988-1994). His responsibilities also included serving as moderator of the task force on relations with evangelicals, with the goal of strengthening links between the WCC and evangelical communities around the world.
Granberg-Michaelson is the author of four books, most recently Leadership from Inside Out: Spirituality and Organizational Change (Crossroad, 2004) and numerous magazine articles, which have appeared in publications such as Perspectives, Sojourners, Christianity Today, The Christian Century, and Ecumenical Review. He also serves on the steering committee of a new ecumenical initiative, the Global Christian Forum.
