Bishop Ariel G. “Gib” Fjellman attended Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois and completed his seminary education at Augustana Lutheran Seminary, Rock Island.  He served congregations in Sun Valley, California and Duluth, Minnesota.  Much of his work was centered around mission work with the Augustana Lutheran Church and serving as regional director of American Missions.  He was bishop of the Pacific Northwest Synod of the Lutheran Church from 1962 to 1983.
