Susan Briehl and Martin Wells first came to Holden as newly weds in the summer of 1980; they have returned many times since to drive bus, teach, wash dishes, direct the Village and welcome others. They live in Spokane, where Martin serves as Bishop of the Eastern Washington-Idaho Synod of the ELCA, Susan works at home and on the road for the Valparaiso Project, and they keep the porch light on for their grown daughters, Mary Emily and Magdalena.
