Huato, Julio

Julio Huato was born in 1960 in rural Mexico. In the 1980s and early 1990s, he helped various peasant communities to organize and lobby for farm land, housing, schools, and clinics, and supported a host of movements of urban workers in the eastern metro area of Mexico City. He has lived in the U.S. since 1994. Julio has a B.A. in economics from the Universidad de La Habana, a master's in the same field from the New School for Social Research, and a Ph. D. in finance and international economics from the CUNY Graduate Center. He's taught economics at several universities in Mexico and the U.S. and is currently an associate professor at St. Francis College in Brooklyn.
