Streufert, Mary

Mary is the director for the Justice for Women program at the ELCA's church-wide office. She received a Ph.D. in theology at Claremont Graduate University. Twenty-one years ago, three important things happened for her at Holden Village: First, she met her spouse, Doug Wold. They live in working class suburban Chicago with three sons, Jules, Evan, and Mattias. Second, she read feminist theology for the first time. After wading through Mary Daly's –Gyn/Ecology: The Metaethics of Radical Feminism, she finally had language for her experience. Third, Holden shaped her understanding of community and the body of Christ. Mary continues to explore the significance of the body of Christ. You can read more about what she thinks in Transformative Lutheran Theologies: Feminist, Womanist, and Mujerista Perspectives, which she edited in 2010 with Fortress Press.
