My father, Al Doerring, was involved in Holden's purchase and development as it transitioned from an abandoned copper mine to a retreat center. I learned of it long distance, for at the time I was living in Africa where my husband was development director of the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center and I was teaching middle and high school in Tanzania. I am a mother of three, Greg, Sonja and Kari. I went to High School in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota; then St. Cloud State University; and I have a PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Minnesota. I have taught at St Cloud Public Schools, Campus Lab School at St. Cloud State, Moshi Kindergarten and Kibo Primary School, Moshi, Tanzania; Luwandai Girls Middle School, Luwandai, Tanzania; Old Moshi Boys Secondary School, Moshi, Tanzania; St. Cloud State Urban Education Program; UW River Falls, Wisconsin Adjunct Professor. Administrative work included Headmistress at Moshi International School; Principal at West-Side Elementary School, River Falls, WI; and Principal of School District of Menominee Indian, Middle School Neopit, WI. I have had the privilege of working in Yellowstone Park and speaking about the work of my son Greg, who has been building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Their commitment to make this world a better place for everyone has strengthened my own.
