Welcome, One and All!

villagecenter.jpg

The legacy and history of Holden Village belong to everyone. For more than four decades, teachers, scholars and artists from all disciplines have given of their own time and spirit to come to this place in the wilderness for the express purpose of freely sharing their gifts.

The resulting sessions, discussions and seminars, which have been faithfully recorded by Village volunteers, constitute a collection of great breadth and importance.

Thousands of hours of this material (in mp3 form) are already available online, for free, on this website. Eventually, this portal will contain most of the material recorded at Holden Village over the years as well as new audio recorded each summer.

We hope that you'll take time to explore this collection, either by searching for particular contents or by browsing the large archive of presenters and sessions. You'll notice that we need your help--with troubleshooting and testing this new resource, but also with filling in details about presenters and resources in this collection. If you'd like to comment or fill in background information on any resource you find on this website, please leave a comment or contact us.

For general questions, such as how to use this archive most effectively, we've developed a short FAQ.

Once again, welcome!

Holden - 1969-70

I spent one life-changing summer working at Holden in 1970. Unfortunately I've never been able to visit again. My father, Vernon Mohr, was Bishop of what was then the Southern District of the ALC. He was a guest lecturer at Holden in the summers of 1969 and 1970. As a result, I have some slides, still photos, and even some home-grown 16mm film footage that we converted to VHS and most lately to DVD. (I may still have the original film but am not sure.) Would the archive be interested in receiving these at some point, or are you only concentrating on audio?
I also wonder if my father's lectures have preserved (don't see them in the 1970 link). I'm the library director at Texas Lutheran University, so I really appreciate and applaud your efforts at preservation. - Martha Mohr Rinn

lecture archives

I was astounded to find my lectures on the internet. What a wonderful new asset for past and future visitors to your one of a kind facility.
I can once again enjoy the powerful lectures given at the Village.
I have not visited the Village for many years and miss it a lot.
Some of most renewing and relaxing and life changing times were spent at Holden.
Thank you for your continuing excellence in moving information to the masses.
