Winchell, Kim

Kim grew up in mid-Michigan and lives in a rural area on 35 acres. Born in Alaska, Kim cites her grief over the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill was, as, in part, what propelled her into environmental activism. She graduated from the U of M in Ann Arbor, with a BS in Medical Technology, and spent the “first half” of her adult life working in a hospital lab and, with her husband, raised two daughters. Since then, she has traveled a spiritual journey that took her from eco-activism to feeling a call to “earthkeeping ministry,” which led Kim to enter candidacy for diaconal ministry in the ELCA. So, for the “second half” of her life, she completed a graduate degree in theology (2004) and was called and consecrated (May 2005) as a Diaconal Minister for Earthkeeping Education.
