Santmire, Paul

The Rev. Dr. H. Paul Santmire has been a pioneering figure in ecological theology for more than three decades. He is a graduate of Harvard College, the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, and Harvard Divinity School. He is the author of Brother Earth (1970), The Travail of Nature (1985), and Nature Reborn (2000). He also helped to develop statements on the environment by the Lutheran Church in America (1972), the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (1983), and the National Council of Churches (2005). In addition, Dr. Santmire has addressed a variety of social justice issues in his writings, especially in his volume South African Testament (1987). After thirty-five years of pastoral ministry, in academic, inner-city, and metropolitan settings, he is now working full-time in the Boston area on his research, writing, and lecturing.
