Hinderlie, Paul

Paul Hinderlie has a great God who began his earthly ministry making way too much wine and ended that ministry grilling fish for breakfast on the beach. Perhaps that is why Paul became a cook.

For 25 years, Paul and his spouse Carol and friend Tom owned the Harbor View Café in Pepin Wisconsin. The three of them served a lot of wine and grilled (and sautéed and steamed) a lot of fish. Oh, yes, Paul and Carol spent as much time as possible raising and enjoying two children, Julia and Katherine.

In 2005 the Holden Village board called Paul and Carol and Tom to direct this most amazing abandoned mining town/space of Grace. It was a long delayed homecoming. Paul first came to Holden with his parents and siblings in 1963 as his parents took over leadership of this venture. Tom and Carol came up the mountain later. Carol and Paul were married in 1974. Of course, Holden provided much of the community building, hospitality and cooking skills that would be so necessary in the restaurant world. But it was the daily proclamation of Jesus Christ our crucified and risen brother that gave Paul and Carol and Tom new life again and again. Thus fortifies, the three of them ventured down the mountain with good courage and returned 28 years later. Now Paul cooks, drives the bus (he would love to do more of both) and loves welcoming people to their Village.
